An Indiana car accident in Harrison County has left one person dead and four others in the hospital, according to a news report released by WHAS. The accident involved two cars that collided on Faith Road, near Mauck Port. According to investigators, the driver of one of the cars crossed the center line, sending her car crashing into a car coming from the opposite direction. The driver who crossed the center line lost her life in the accident, while her two children and the two people in the other car were seriously injured.
Rescue workers extracted the injured people from the cars, sending the children to Kosair Children’s Hospital and the two adults in the second car to University Hospital. The hospital reports that all four people are in critical condition after the accident.
Police are still investigating what caused the crash. So far, police have reported only that they found alcohol containers in one of the vehicles, but they have not indicated which vehicle. They have requested that those involved in the crash be tested for alcohol or other intoxicants as part of the investigation.
Losing a family member or friend in an accident is a heart-wrenching experience, and our thoughts are with the families and friends of the people involved in this accident. As an Indiana personal injury attorney with experience handling car accidents, I know that recovery is a long road, and that nothing can replace a lost loved one. Indiana law does, however, provide certain rights to the victims of car accidents and their families, including the right to seek compensation from negligent individuals or businesses that were responsible for the accident. I’ve handled the fight for many Indiana families, helping them receive the compensation they need to pay medical bills and to move forward after an accident.
There are a variety of causes that can result in an Indiana wrongful death that range from a car or motorcycle accident to a defective consumer product or vehicle component. The sudden loss of a loved one can throw a family into an unimaginable amount of grief, which can be worsened if the death was caused by someone else’s negligence.
Family members of a deceased victim have two years to file an Indiana wrongful death claim if they want to hold negligent parties legally accountable for their actions. It doesn’t matter whether the negligent party was a single person or a business, as insurance companies are usually always involved. Because insurance representatives are paid based on the amount of money they don’t pay out on insurance claims, they may use unfair tactics to avoid paying a victim’s family what they are due, such as exploiting a family’s guilt about seeking compensation for their loved one’s wrongful death. The knowledge of an experienced wrongful death attorney can be invaluable at this time to help families deal with corrupt insurance companies to obtain the compensation they legally deserve.
While no amount of money can bring a loved one back, it can help with expenses incurred as a result their death, such as medical bills, funeral and burial costs, and the loss of love and companionship. Additionally, if the wrongful death victim was a child, Indiana wrongful death laws allow for counseling costs to be included in a wrongful death compensation package as the loss of a child creates an insurmountable kind of grief for parents.
