Q: Can brain injuries ever heal?
A: The physical trauma connected to a brain injury will heal, and the disabilities caused by the trauma will disappear in most victims of mild injury, such as MTBI, and some victims of moderate injury. But for others, the brain functions affected by the injury will never return. In those unfortunate and tragic cases, oftentimes relationships suffer and sometimes get to the point of irreconciliation. Victims may be able to learn new ways to perform those functions, but they will always have at least some disability requiring some form of ongoing treatment. The most severely injured may need lifelong care.
