Traumatic Brain Injury FAQ's
Q: Is a concussion the same as a brain injury and what is MTBI?
A: Yes. A concussion is the mildest and most common form of brain injury. Many insurance claims adjusters do not consider a concussion a brain injury per se but medical literature proves otherwise. Victims of concussion may black out only for a moment, for several minutes or more, or not at all, and experience few or no symptoms. However, victims should consider seeing a doctor for even minor concussions, because the injury may be more serious than you think or thought it to be at first.
You may have suffered a "Mild Traumatic Brain Injury" or MTBI for short; but you need a competent physician, to make such a diagnosis, with experience in TBI or MTBI cases to be sure, such as a Neuro- Psychologist, Neurologist or even a brain surgeon. Even if suffering a MTBI injury could have significant medical consequences on your ability to think and function both at work, home or at play. And repeated mild concussions could cause more serious problems, including second impact syndrome, dementia and Alzheimer's to name a few. It can also dramatically affect job performance and relationship with family, friends and co-workers.
