Traumatic Brain Injury FAQ's
Q: What is a traumatic brain injury or TBI?
A: A traumatic brain injury, or TBI for short, is any injury to the brain from an external trauma, like a blow, a motor vehicle crash – especially a motorcycle crash - a bullet wound or other type of puncture, with or without penetration to the brain and with or without fracture to the skull. A brain injury that breaks the skull can directly destroy brain tissues, but even a blow that does not break the skull can cause the brain to shake violently, destroying tissues or cutting the connections that allow brain cells to communicate properly. This is very serious because it can cause long-term damage to the victim's brain functions.
